Andrea Mitchell
Andrea Mitchell works as a reporter for NBC News based out of Washington D.C. Mitchell has a BA degree in English from University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell began her professional career as a journalist for KYW Radio and TV, Philadelphia in 1967. She joined the CBS subsidiary WDVM-TV (then WTOP) in Washington DC in 1976. Two years later she became a general reporter for NBC News in Washington. The year 1980 marked the beginning of her coverage of the White House. 1988 became the main congressional reporter. She became Chief White House reporter in 1992 as well as the chief Foreign Affairs reporter for NBC News. Mitchell has appeared in the TV news program Meet the Press as a panelist and host. Mitchell was a panelist at the debate in 1988 among George Bush & Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married to Alan Greenspan who was former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell was presented with the Goldsmith Career Award in 2005 by the John F. Kennedy School of Government for excellence in the field of journalism. In 2004 The Radio-Television News Directors Association gave Mitchell the Leonard Zeidenberg Award in recognition of her contributions to protecting First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell was the very first reporter to report on White House stories for NBC News during the time of Ronald Reagan in office from 1981 to 1988. She covered a wide range of notable stories, including weapons control, the budget tax reform as well as the Iran-contra scandal. She also traveled extensively along with the President Reagan for summits with Mikhail Gorbachev and other world heads.
